Hurray! It is finally happening. We are opening our gallery doors on April 12th at 12 pm.
It has been two years since I purchased The Royal Fish Bar at 23 Brockley Rise. Sadly, it was an institution past its sell by date and was puttering along wtih a one star hygiene certificate and an owner who looked as if he wanted out asap.
Once I had the property we had to knock the entire building down and start afresh, which has proved to be the best option for us and the terraced row we are on. Since buying the property, the William Hills next door has closed and a new building of 4 flats and a retail unit has been erected, our buildings compliment each other and have changed the look of what was once a somewhat bland, if not miserable looking, corner of Brockley Rise. Also, we have had a lovely organic deli open, and the wonderful Pizza-arte. The whole neighbourhood seems to be getting a well deserved facelift. Cities are in constant growth and change and this area is no exception. A lot of new people seem to have moved in recently as well.
The long haul experience of 2 years has had a lot to do with the Covid pandemic. It was hard to get supplies for the building and many of the builders would not work, which was fair enough. A disgruntled neighbour also did us no favours but we have managed to, it seems, overcome all that and we are finally where we wanted to be from the beginning.
We are looking forward to once again being part of this community and offering our art gallery exhibitions, events and framing service to our neighbours and beyond.
Our first exhbition will be a mixed one with works by Lisa Henshall, Kate Felton-Hall, Iain Nutting, Chris Kendrick, Claudia de Vilafames, & Gill Hamilton. Most of the art can be seen and purchased on our site.
